The hideous ceiling light is gone! The track lighting targeted for the bathroom ended up working better here. It’s nice and bright when you enter. A chalk board hangs over the bench; friends and family seem to enjoy tagging it. The plan is still to put some shelves, and possibly cabinets, above the chalkboard.

It would really open up this narrow space, and allow for good air/energy flow to take the wall separating it from the kitchen about 1 foot or so; it would be a pain in the butt, though so it’s just an idea for now. A glass door (steel framed) would let in lots of light, let visitors catch a glimpse before entering, and let us see who/what’s out there; I’m really voting for this one, but I know doors are expensive so we’ll have to save up. The closet will get a built in bench with cushion and storage cubbies underneath for shoes, etc. Above that will be shelves/cubbies for storage (a precious commodity around here.)

There’s a bench for throwing bags/keys/mail down and sitting on to put on/take off shoes. Last week the walls were scrubbed/primed/painted with just final touch up and trim needing to be done. The light fixture which I loathe needs to come down but turns out the replacement we got will hang down too low so we are still on the hunt.

Thanks to Jeph the door now functions well. The closet sliding doors and metal bar were removed so it can become a mini “mudroom” (good idea from sister Sue.) That pig iron bar did not want to move and took a big chunk of wall out with it (gratefully patched by brother-in-law Tim.)

Pros:
Good sized closet. Window over door. Channels entering/exiting energy nicely.

Cons:
Somewhat dark, narrow, and closed off. Door hard to open/close/lock. Access panel to plumbing in closet. Hideous ceiling fixture.
