I like this Bill Harris’ writings and I think his message here is one of the true keys to living happily as a human being.

A couple of concepts he mentions, which are recurring themes in my life: the beauty of the rainbow is in gazing up at whatever sliver of it you are lucky enough to see, not in trying to find the pot of gold; and, as Dorothy found out, seeking and grasping for what we think is the perfect reality (Oz) is just illusion distracting us from the real reality, the only thing that really matters, the fully experiencing of the here and now of this moment.

I like that he acknowledges that on this plane of material reality it impossible to escape cause and effect and impermanence so there is no point in trying. It is also impossible to stay detached and not strive. We are human. The difference, though, is that we can do it all with AWARENESS. That’s the key that opens every door and we all have one. It’s no secret, it just requires a lifetime of learning, and trying, and practicing, and being open and present. The more I do all that, the more I get out of my own way, the more it all makes sense and the more worthwhile I realize it is.

Sunny California. I LOVE the sun. It’s rays are both energizing and invigorating to me. I’m happy to be on the East side of the SF Bay which is definitely warmer and sunnier than SF’s notorious fog and cooler temps. But, there are still too many foggy/cloudy mornings and not enough heat for me her in Oakland. Today is gorgeous, and I am happy to be in the back yard enjoying it. In a little while I’ll return to the shady apartment to work on video production with Jeph. The apartment is very comfortable, and cozy, for us, but it would be so great to have some sunlight streaming in. Nothing is perfect, of that I am truly certain. Which is one of the reasons it is so important to live in the Here and Now. The past was all it could be; the future, whatever you are striving for, will be full of wonderful, and not so wonderful, moments. Now is your opportunity to get as close to perfection as the Universe can offer, which is constantly evolving as the moments pass.

Jeph conceived of, and I started, this blog with the intention of writing about external experiences and the choices we make about how we outwardly live our life: what we eat, what we buy, the energy we use…What I’ve been inspired to reflect on so far, though, is largely internal: what I’m thinking and feeling -and the psychology, philosophy, and spirituality of it – as I move through my days. I would love to be more humorous, and metaphorical about it, like Misty and her overall approach to life, as exemplified by her witty, candid, and funny blog. She’s someone who has the sun glowing within her. You experience it through her smile, her laugh, and her stories. For someone who’s dealt with many challenges in life, her consistently positive energy is inspiring. It’s great to be around. I don’t think I was born with a lot of natural fire, and that’s probably why I’m such a sun worshipper. Heating up from the outside actually penetrates my inner realms (my soul) and helps me stoke the small flame. Yes, it’s pretty esoteric, but there’s a lot more going on here than material reality and one of the abiding themes of this life, for me, is seeking understanding of the other dimensions. The goal, of course, is to be able to share the insights (with an awareness that we all must ultimately learn our own lessons.)
